Mapping you Business on the Major Local Search Engines

By: Kenneth Jackson

On a recent trip to Seattle for the Search Marketing Expo – Advanced, I was tired wet and cold looking some sort of food Seafood restaurant near my hotel and decided to use Google Maps on my Palm Treo 750 (no I have not moved to the IPhone yet) to find it. Shortly after finding the information I wanted, I started to wonder how many Accounting Firms I could find on a local search. How many? Not many!

Well, I do own a Search firm and I am always curious so, I did a search on Accounting and Financial Planning firms in Seattle. I expected to see red markers designating firms everywhere. Amarillo has NO shortage of accountants. Alas, the overall majority were not listed (as shown in the screenshot below).

So How Do I get my Business on the Map?

And then I thought, hey, maybe people just do not know how to add their Accounting Firm to Google Maps? If that is the case, fret no more because I am going to show you how to do just that.

While Google, Yahoo and other maps gather business information from numerous websites (Yellow Pages directories, and other sources) to populate their search results, you can easily enter your information into these online services for free. Here’s how: Continue reading “Putting Your Business on the Map - Part 1″
